No specific education is required to become a personnel recruiter. "Many recruiters have a background in sales or in the general area they are working in such as accounting, finance, IT, legal or marketing," says recruiter David Spry. "No university degree is required."

Recruiter Marti Stites says that although most recruiters have one, a degree isn't necessary. "But a background in the area you work in is important."

The National Association of Personnel Services certifies personnel consultants. Applicants must have experience in the field and write exams on consulting subjects.
