Insider Info

It's difficult to determine the number of people working in this field. "The number working may be a bit limited, but study in architectural history can be a background for a number of related careers," says Jeffery Howe. He is a professor of architectural history in Boston.

The Society of Architectural Historians has close to 4,000 members in approximately 56 countries. "Of those, about 3,000 are individuals and the rest are institutions such as colleges and libraries," says Andrew James, who works for the society.

"This is a specialized field," says James. "It's not easy to find a job, but they are available."

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
