Additional Information

Being able to draw invented worlds is essential to being a concept artist. But that's not the only thing that's going to land you a job. Even the most talented artists need a college education to get ahead in this field.

A bachelor's degree related to digital art gives you the technical skills and drawing practice you need to succeed, according to Art Institute of Phoenix instructor Cecile Foshee.

"There's so much competition out there that a company will not hire you if you don't have a degree," says Foshee.

Katy Hargrove is a graduate of the Art Institute of Phoenix and has worked as a concept artist for various companies. Hargrove advises students to enroll in programs that offer courses on software like PhotoShop and Painter, to name a few. More and more companies require concept artists to use these tools to create digital colored drawings.
