Additional Information

There are a few U.S. management university programs specifically geared toward recreational facilities management. The professionals say that regular management, business or marketing programs can also help you prepare for this career.

"I tell anyone I know, 'Get a degree. It doesn't matter what it's in,'" says facility operator Heather Wright. She says these diplomas open doors around promotion time. It is essential. She has a degree in education.

The most important component of education, however, is hands-on experience. More than your major, it is important to find a part-time job at an arena while in school. If you prove yourself, you will be offered a full-time position when one becomes available, say the arena managers.
