You are a materials engineer. You must test the strength of ceramic material under various conditions. You need to know at which temperatures it can maintain its strength, and under which environmental conditions it may corrode.

Sivan Parameswaran has been a materials engineer for over 40 years. "The role of the materials engineer is to select the right materials for particular applications. This is based on the strength requirements and other considerations."

Your task is to decide how many times this ceramic should be tested under the different temperature conditions. You are working alone. The company will be basing all of its decisions on your data. You know that they are relying on you to provide them with accurate information. If your information is not accurate, the company will suffer.

You have to test the ceramic material enough times to ensure it will withstand what the company is planning to use it for. You also must calculate how many times the material can be used at different temperatures and environmental conditions.

You will have to test the ceramic in over 100 different situations. Each test will cost the company $100.

You know that their budget is only around $5,000. That's half of what you expected it to be.
