Additional Information

Most herbalists are trained through an apprenticing relationship with a mentor. Or they go to one of the many private herbalist colleges referred by the American Herbalists Guild.

"I've not actually been to a school," says herbalist Andrew Bentley. "I've studied under other herbalists in other countries. I've traveled to Asia and to the Arctic to learn from traditional herbalists there. They taught me about herbs that I probably wouldn't have learned about here.

"But I would suggest finding a good educational program," he adds. "Which is going to depend on what you're interested in. There's a lot of correspondence programs available out there, which is very convenient for a lot of people who can't afford to give up whatever they're doing to study it full time."
