Real-Life Decision Making

You are leading an archeological dig in a remote area of South America. You and your crew are 10 miles away from the nearest village, and your contact with the outside world is minimal.

Your grant funding has provided you with enough money for one truck to bring you from the main city to the camp and, eventually, take you back to the city again. You also use the truck to go to the village to get supplies.

One day, the truck breaks down just outside of the village. You know a little bit about this vehicle's engine, and you have a how-to book on mechanics, but you're definitely no mechanic.

You check into getting the truck fixed and find out the nearest mechanic lives in a village 50 miles away and only visits this village every two weeks. You would be looking at least a three-week wait.

Even if you wait the three weeks, there's no guarantee the mechanic can fix the truck. In the meantime, you've got no wheels. Likewise, you could try to fix it yourself, but that might not work either.

What do you do?
