Currency traders aren't licensed or certified; there are no specific educational requirements. But most experts agree that a bachelor's degree in commerce or finance is a minimum requirement. An MBA may be necessary for some positions.

"You need a college degree and an understanding of economics, accounting, [and] mathematics," says trader Elliott Dix, who got his start at a bank as a teller and worked his way up to currency trader.
