According to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, few universities offer courses in forensic engineering. Forensic engineers must develop their own credentials. Most have a bachelor's degree in engineering.

However, Robert Sokol's experience comes from working for a major car manufacturer and from teaching automotive classes for a local college. He worked for the automotive industry for 10 years and teaches now.

Denise Hyde works for a sheriff's office. She recommends that those interested in the field join a reserve officer's group at the sheriff's office or a ride-along program. This way, she says, you can get your feet wet and see if you like it.

To become accredited, a reconstructionist must meet minimum standards of education and experience. If the standards are met, the reconstructionist must pass an exam. They then become accredited.
