Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You insist that a time extension is needed.
You have to revise the contract with a new extended timeline and then take
it to your boss for approval. Your biggest concern, however, is if your boss
doesn't approve the timeline extension. Considering your boss was so
adamant on the deadline before, chances are he is not going to feel any differently
about it now.
Decisions like this are quite common when you work as a contracts coordinator,
says Velvet Hunter. She is a technical consultant for a government.
"I have to look at the contract and think, 'Does this make sense?
Can I get this contract approved?'" says Hunter. These decisions aren't
easy, but she says they have to be made, and unfortunately, she rarely has
much time to make them.
In this case, if you ask for an extension, there is no way the software
will be installed in time. And according to your boss, that is a definite
requirement. Chances are that if you ask for a contract extension, your boss
would not approve the contract and the job would be delayed even further.
