Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Here's what you could write:

"The valves used by the company to control the flow of liquid are too costly. We are interested in replacing some valves with the drives, which do the same job, because they are more cost-effective.

"Using drives costs less because they can control pump speed. Pumps, which force liquid through pipes, can be slowed down to pump only as quickly as necessary. This saves money."

Effective communication is critical in instrumentation. "I've talked to salesmen on the phone who just didn't understand what I was talking about," says Bob Goudy, an industrial instrumentation technician. "Some of them had engineers call me back."
