Additional Information

Child life specialists have bachelor's or master's degrees and come from a variety of educational backgrounds, including early childhood education, art therapy and psychology.

Successful specialists have interned in a health-care setting and have solid skills in growth and development, family dynamics, and basic medical terminology. Superior communication skills are also needed.

If you choose to obtain a two-year degree, you can be a child life assistant -- they work under the direct supervision of a child life specialist.

And there's room for advancement! If they choose to obtain a master's degree, child life specialists can become child life administrators who establish program objectives and run a staff of specialists.
