Real-Life Communication

Being able to describe and explain the work of customizing is an important skill that will help you deal with customers.

Often, customizers say, a customer knows what he wants but can't quite put it into words. That's where you come in.

The current customer is in that position. He knows he wants to completely change the appearance of his 1955 Chevy, but he doesn't know exactly how it will happen.

Using at least five of the terms and definitions below, explain to him how you will alter his car to make it a hot rod to be proud of.

Cutout: When a piece of the car's body is removed using an acetylene torch

Add-on: When metal is welded on to the car's body (such as spoilers or fins)

Switch: When pieces of the car are moved to a different location

Beef-up: When accessories are added to make a car seem larger and more impressive

Slim-down: When a car is made to look as sleek as possible

Flames: Painted flames

Split-coat: When a car is painted more than one color
