Insider Info

Additional Information

Graduate and professional degrees are common. Fund-raiser Gary Sim holds an MBA which, he says, is not unusual.

Nolan Finn is the senior vice-president in the resource development division of the United Way. He has a degree in psychology, and he has also studied marketing. He says his business background is useful for working with numbers, but he found his psychology education paid off, too. "It helps me understand human nature," he says.

Extra Requirements

Laws vary by state, but many states require some types of fundraisers to register with a state authority. Check with your state for more information.
