Additional Information

When looking for a program, check the school's reputation and contact people already there. Check to see what the professors' areas of research are and whether they're well respected by others. Also, find out whether a school has an applied program and if they offer meaningful internships.

Don't expect to work as a sociologist without a university degree. A bachelor's degree might get you in the door for entry-level jobs, but a PhD is required for most positions in colleges and universities, as well as many professional positions.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Mathematical skills and the ability to use computers for research purposes are mandatory in most disciplines.
