A customer plops his shoes on the counter of your shop, Sole Man Shoe Repair. It doesn't look like he's in a good mood.

"I need new soles put onto these business shoes," he says. "They're all worn out. I'm in a hurry, so I just want to drop them off. I want you to remove the rubber soles and replace them with leather ones. The rubber soles make these shoes too hot. I'll pick them up tomorrow."

Before he takes off, you need to explain a couple of things to him. As he says, rubber soles can make shoes hot, while leather is cooler because it breathes. The problem is, you can't take the rubber soles off the shoes. They're molded to the shoes. If you tried to take them off, you'd wreck the shoes.

You'll have to fix the soles using the same type of rubber. He's in a hurry and in no mood to argue, so you'll have to be brief and non-confrontational in your explanation.
