Educational Consultant

Real-Life Math

Educational consultants have to spend a lot of their time traveling to colleges, boarding schools and wilderness camps, to name a few places.

They do this to ensure that when a parent comes to them asking for advice about where to send their child, they will have the first-hand knowledge to feel confident about making a recommendation.

An educational consultant will spend 5 or 6 days out of each month on the road. That's 5 or 6 days that she will not be making money, but spending money on gas and other expenses.

You are an educational consultant on the road. You are going through a passage that runs for about 300 miles.

You spot a gas station in the distance. You decide that now is a good time to check your fuel and make sure that you are going to make it to the next town with the amount of gas you have.

Your tank holds 16 gallons of gas. It is precisely three-quarters full. You get 21 miles per gallon and the next gas station (after the one coming up) is 270 miles away.

Are you going to make it on the gas you have?
