It's difficult to say how many educational consultants exist in the U.S.
"We try to follow the numbers pretty close," says Mark Sklarow. He works
with the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA).
"There are probably about 500 to 600 people who are doing this full time
as their sole job. There are probably up to 2,000 people who are either college
admissions directors or school counselors who are doing it part time."
There are about 300 members in the ICEA. But educational consultant Stephen
Bozak estimates that there are thousands more people without certification
working as educational consultants.
Sklarow says his association has seen an increased demand for the services
that educational consultants offer.
"We are independent of any school, and are paid by the family of the client,"
says Bozak. "Our title is CEP, and we must be full time in our work. Rates
are about $100 an hour. Yearly is $100,000 plus."
