Insider Info

Additional Information

Many customs brokers learn their profession on the job.

In the U.S., customs brokers must pass an exam to become licensed with the Department of Treasury. "There are no real requirements," says customs broker Gary French. "You don't even need a high school diploma; you just have to pass the exam."

Local schools offer courses in customs brokerage. "Courses in business may help you get the background you need," he says. Contact the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America for more information.
