Insider Info

Additional Information

This career is a busy blend of science, technology and people skills. Radiologic technologists can never stop learning.

"The need for continuing education is great, as technology is always changing. For example, X-rays you process like film are becoming a thing of the past -- everything is digital and computerized. The idea of continuing education can seem cumbersome at first, but it is great to learn about what is coming up that is new, and how other people do the same things," says Amanda Wyman. She is a radiologic technologist.

To launch your career, students can get a two-year certificate, a two-year associate's degree or a four-year bachelor's degree. There are also post-graduate certificates and master's degrees.

The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology accredited hundreds of radiography programs. Licensing laws are different around the country. Many states require licensure in this field. Many use American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exams for state licensing.

Extra Requirements

Certifications for radiologic technologists are available from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). For specific licensure requirements for radiologic technologists, contact the state’s health board.
