Real-Life Communication -- Solution
Here's what you could say:
Mr. Dexter, before we begin
weaving the latest Ultrawear design, I have a few concerns.
As you
know, this Ultrawear fabric is expensive to manufacture. It is cost-effective
for both your company and the end user if little of the fabric is wasted when
the actual garments are sewn.
With the current design repeat of 7.5,
we'll have a lot of material which will be basically unusable when the
pattern pieces are cut during garment production.
I believe
I have an alternative we will both be happy with. If we reduce the pattern
only 15 percent this will create a repeat of seven.
Do you agree it
will be more cost-effective to produce this Ultrawear pattern with a design
repeat of seven? I understand it will be a compromise of a 15 percent pattern
reduction.
However, I feel the end consumer will be more inclined to
purchase the garment when the cost to him will be a little less. I doubt the
end consumer will notice the difference the percentage change makes to the
pattern.
