Real-Life Math -- Solution
How many times will your pattern repeat across the width?
First,
you will need to scale the original 10 x 10 inch pattern to the new size.
The client wants it 20 percent smaller.
100 percent - 20 percent
= 80 percent
You will work with 80 percent of your original pattern.
Your
pattern is a square, so determine the new width by multiplying 10 inches by
80 percent.
New width = 10 inches x 0.80
New width = 8 inches
The
new dimensions of the pattern are 8 x 8 inches.
Now determine the repeat
for the pattern across the fabric width. The fabric width is 60 inches.
Repeat
= 60 inches / 8 inches wide
Repeat = 7.5 inches
The pattern
will repeat 7.5 times across the width of the fabric.
