Additional Information

To land a job as a dance teacher at a K-12 school or a college, you need at least a bachelor's degree. In some cases a master's degree and teacher certification are also required. Check the requirements in your state.

"The arts are becoming more prominent in the school system so 'qualified' instructors may become more in demand," says Donna Moreau. She's a dance instructor and president of a dance teachers' association.

Dance degrees are available from many post-secondary institutions. Students can take dance studies or dance performance programs. Degree options include a bachelor of arts, a bachelor of fine arts and a master of fine arts.

Studio dance instructors have looser educational requirements. No formal education is required to teach social dance or other styles of dance.
