Laying the foundation for a career as a DNA analyst means getting comfortable with biology, understanding how DNA works and gaining experience with standard laboratory research methods.

Most analysts hold bachelor's degrees in forensic studies, biology or a closely related field. Others specialize in serology -- the study of the blood. Specialized training is available on the job.
