Additional Information

E-mail administrator Mike Caplan says you need general computer knowledge and the ability to learn a lot about a specific topic. "Every position's requirements are different. I think it's best to be an e-mail user and make the transition to administrator, learning the software, systems, [and] network of the place you are going to work."

But he says that doesn't work for everyone. "I do not know of any schools specifically for e-mail. Everything an [administrator] would need is available in books."

Many employers want to hire someone with a degree in some branch of computer science or information technology. Some employers may require their e-mail administrator to be certified in a specific network or system.
