Real-Life Communication

Communication skills are a must if you want to be a police officer. Every day, police officers speak with witnesses, crime victims, suspects, other law enforcement agencies, the media and the general public. They have to collect information, analyze it and report it to their superiors and fellow officers.

Much of the communication in a police station is done using written reports. At the beginning of a shift, police officers attend a briefing session. It's here that they get memos, bulletins, daily crime reports and logs. Officers read these reports to find out what happened on the previous shift, and to stay up to date on current investigations.

You are a K-9 cop with a university police department. You've been off shift for a week and have just come back to work. You grab the Daily Press Log to find out what you've missed.

Read the report, and write a brief summary of one or two sentences on each of the arrest cases. Note the names of the arrested and why they were arrested.
