Crime Prevention Specialist

Money & Outlook

Insider Info

"There are a lot of us out there," says Marlee Chapman. She is a crime prevention supervisor in Encinitas, California. But she cautions that there wouldn't be more than a few thousand in total.

"I think it will continue to grow," says Chapman. "There is a lot of education that needs to be done, and as more people see that becoming a crime prevention specialist is a way to make a difference, we'll see more people come into it."

The pay is not stellar. "There are about a dozen overtime opportunities throughout the year that help bump the salary up," says Chapman. "But the benefits and rewards of the job outweigh the lower salary."

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
