Insider Info

Magician Maritess (who only goes by one name) says that there are more weekend magicians than full-time professional ones. "My opinion is that there are probably 2,000 magicians in the U.S. that make their living exclusively from magic."

Maritess says incomes vary. "I know many magicians who make over $100,000 a year from professional magic. I personally know a dozen magicians who make over a million a year doing magic. It all depends on how good a businessperson you are."

Magician Debbie O'Carroll says the market will continue to be good for magicians over the next five years, especially in schools. "Teachers and students are just recognizing the educational value of magic both in workshops and in performances. Magicians wishing to get into this market should take education courses," she says.

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
