Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You wait and call your dispatcher in the morning.

Early in the morning, you call your dispatcher. After explaining the situation, your dispatcher calls Coeur d'Alene and tells them the load will be late. He's heard about the storm in Coeur d'Alene and says it's good you didn't go. He says he'll send maintenance over right away to change the tires and then you can be on your way.

This is the real-life decision made by trucker Jeff Spong.

"Safety is a huge concern," says Spong. "It's like a plane crash; when a plane goes down, the world hears about it. It's the same thing when a tractor trailer gets involved in an accident -- it's front page news. Because of the size and weight of the rigs, they can do a lot of damage."
